Best Workout Facility: Hillside Physical Health & Fitness

Jan 29, 2018 | 10:51 AM

For 31 years, Hillside Physical Health & Fitness has treated, educated and empowered the people of Prince Albert, helping them to live an active and healthy lifestyle.

The entire team lives by the motto of treating an individual and not just a body part. They also help clients along the road to recovery following accidents or illness through trusted physical therapy treatment.

Co-owner Scott Ward highlighted how a close tie with their patients and deep commitment to healthy living, wellness and sport has lead to the facilities success.

A fully equipped gym and dynamic programming opportunities encased in a relaxed, personal setting are just a few of the reasons many locals flock to Hillside.

“We are a little bit of a quieter facility with room to move” said Ward. “We have lots of room to use machines, free weights and functional strengthening options. The turf is nice which gets used a lot by the athletes and patients both.”

Athletics and rehabilitation are the focus and passion of Ward and the other highly skilled professionals at Hillside. And with the in-depth expert slate of exercise and physiotherapists, it is no wonder many elite sports teams frequent Hillside to grow their game.

While offering public gym memberships, personal training and program development, Hillside has been pioneers of a highly attractive sports training program. Garnering significant attention is the facilities after school program for athletes.

“We get a smaller group of kids out after school, two to ten kids, out in the gym. We set programs up for them and work with them during their program,” Ward explained. “What we like about that is the smaller group size, so we can make sure everything is done properly, and help each athlete meet their goals.”

With two sons involved in hockey and baseball, Ward is keen to the benefits of athletics in many ways.

“I am really big on fitness and sports and not just the activities that you are actually doing, but just the life lessons that you can get as well,” Ward said. “That is what I believe in and I connect all those together.”

For those looking for top quality personal training, Hillside is also the place to turn. Ward says their “main goal is program development, where we sit down and consult and make a program up specifically for the client.”

“We create a program and then show them proper techniques and progessions,” Ward added, noting trust and safety as critical parts in coaching and training.

Another attractive program, which runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, is the Noon Hour Fitness Blitz. Here, those who have time for a lunchtime workout come by, have an endurance and strength blitz and still have time to get back to work.

All their exercise therapists are university trained and active gym goers themselves, so you can be confident you’re getting the best possible training from the people who know it best. The entire staff also believe in giving back, and that is why the staff all take time to coach various sports in the hope that the gift of time will inspire future athletes to do the same.

Sports safety and concussion management is also a great passion for the Hillside team. They are certified providers of the concussion management program and are involved in the Parachute charity, which is dedicated to preventing injuries while playing sports. They also provide acupuncture, dry needling and brace fitting in conjunction with treatment of injuries of any source, whether sports injuries, work related or car accident injuries, repetitive strains or slip and falls.
