Local R.M. invests $190K into new bylaw enforcement unit
The Rural Municipality of Buckland (R.M.) has a new weapon in its ongoing struggle with property crime and drivers who run stop signs.
The R.M. council agreed to spend $190,000 to create a new bylaw enforcement unit. Reeve Don Fyrk told paNOW, someone had to carry the ball.
“People were trying to get a neighbourhood watch going but they wanted to sit back and let the R.M. handle it, so OK sit back and we are going to handle it,” he said.
Fyrk said the new bylaw officer is currently finishing his training and should be on the job by later this month. He will have the authority to detain suspects and issue tickets. Fyrk said he has instructed the officer not to give any warnings.
