UPDATED:

In what appears to be an escalating embarrassment for the Correctional Service of Canada, RCMP have released information indicating the man who escaped from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert sometime New Year’s Eve was driving a truck belonging to Corrections. Furthermore he was spotted driving it in Yorkton in broad daylight following his escape.

In a media release Tuesday night Yorkton RCMP said Steven Briggs, 24, is driving a 2015 Dodge truck, blue in colour, that is a 4-door crew cab model belonging to the Correctional Service of Canada.

It went on to say on Jan.1, 2019, at approximately 4 p.m. Briggs was observed driving the Correctional Service of Canada vehicle in the Yorkton area.

The CSC says Steven Briggs escaped from the minimum security unit at the penitentiary Monday night. Staff discovered Briggs was unaccounted for during the 10 p.m. count.

Briggs is five feet nine inches tall and weighs 157 pounds. He is described as having a medium complexion, green eyes and brown hair. Briggs has tattoos on his right hand, his left hand and left forearm.

He is currently serving a jail sentence of seven years and three months for assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, robbery, vehicle theft and possession of property obtained by crime.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Steven Briggs is asked to contact police.

The CSC says it will investigate the circumstances that led to the escape.
