Celebrating 55 years in operation, KIN Enterprises has provided individuals with disabilities a wide array of support ranging from mobility to basic life and work skills. According to Executive Director, Shawn Elder, “KIN is a place that helps people with disabilities achieve goals, life skills, socialize and have something to look forward to.” “The whole point of what we do is to improve the quality of their lives. We have such a great, caring group that strives to make KIN as best it can be.”

With almost 200 participants and 60 staff members, KIN Enterprises includes three locations in Prince Albert that serves the city, surrounding area and the north.

KIN Enterprises offers training programs based on the needs of the participant. The activities and work experiences are tailored individually to provide a social setting, enhancing numerous skills including greater independence and overall learning. Some programs also have close community involvement, such as city contracts, providing confidential paper pick up and shredding, paper and wire recycling, and restaurant and retail services.

Director of Programs and Services, Hillary Brahniuk elaborates, “Our goal is to become more and more prominent to the community. We’re really working to raise awareness that everyone deserves to have meaningful work and a sense of value, and about how much support is actually needed for people with disabilities, and of course finding different ways for our participants to fit in to the community and know they belong.”

Looking for your next lunch? KIN Enterprises runs the Starlight Restaurant, 457-40 Street East, Prince Albert, serving breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday, a daily buffet, homemade baking available for purchase anytime of year, provides Meals on Wheels in PA, and also offers off-site evening catering.

KIN 15, 300-15 Avenue East, is the workshop that offers retail custom wooden products, lawn furniture, gift ideas and more.

Everyone at Kin Enterprises is excited for today and excited for the future. According to Brahniuk, they’re waiting on a proposal for a community program allowing more individuals to work out in the community with businesses and continue the support needed from KIN Enterprises. She continues, “my work is so meaningful, and I’m greeted everyday with happy people because they know I’m here to support and help them. Seeing each individual grow and feel needed, and watching all the social interactions and friendships form – that is huge for me.”

They hold their mission statement true to their hearts: “To offer adults considered to have challenging abilities, diverse and relevant opportunities to enhance their quality of life and involvement within the community.” Shawn Elder adds, “The individuals that come to KIN are just like you and me – they have dreams, plans, goals…they just want to be included. The people we serve deserve to be recognized, included and respected.”
