Prince Albert Concert Choir prepares for concert

Dec 9, 2018 | 11:00 AM

For many, the holiday season is about music.

With this in mind, the Prince Albert Concert Choir will be putting on a show Sunday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m., at Calvary United Church.

Choir president, Margaret Duncombe, explained the type of music they will perform.

“It’s a wide variety of music, it goes from spiritual, to hymns, to fun and just seasonal,” she said.

Duncombe said the 35-person choir has a diverse range of voices, with many having a lot of experience singing in choirs. The choir has put on the concert for six years.

Those in attendance will not only have the chance to take in music from the choir but will have the opportunity to hear some other kinds of music as well.

“This year we have a saxophone quartet that’s going to be playing,” Duncombe said.

The choir is under the direction of conductor Robert Gibson. Gibson is helped along by his wife Lorna, who accompanies on either the piano or organ.

Admission to the concert is by donation with everyone welcome to attend. Duncombe said the donations help cover some of the expenses.

“Music is the number one expense because you always have to buy your music and outside of that we provide a small honorarium to our conductor and our accompanist,” she said.

The donations also help cover expenses related to keeping up the piano and help to provide an honorarium to the Calvary United Church.

Duncombe said the choir considers themselves to be a community choir as they are not affiliated with any organization and has what she called a good cross-section of people.

“It’s lots of fun,” she said.
