Residents get help with passport papers at local clinic

Nov 14, 2018 | 9:48 AM

Local MP Randy Hoback was in Prince Albert Tuesday, helping seniors and members of the public navigate passport documents as part of a local passport clinic.

Hoback, the Member of Parliament for the federal riding of Prince Albert, hosted the first of several passport clinics in the region Tuesday at Plaza 88. Hoback and members of his staff were on hand to help seniors and others with their passport details, including photos and document costs.

Hoback said the event was also a chance to meet and connect with local constituents. More passport clinics are planned this week in Carrot River, Tisdale and Kinistino.

“It’s just trying to be approachable, trying to make sure we’re out and about in the community,” Hoback said.

Karen Grimard attended the passport clinic to get her documents in order ahead of a trip to the United States with her family next year. The Holbein resident said she’s never had a passport before and wanted some help with the documents.

”I wasn’t quite sure how to do it,” Grimard told paNOW. “I brought everything that I possibly could need so I didn’t have to send for it, I always had it.”

Looking ahead to the next federal election, which is planned for 2019, Hoback said he and his team are ready. Hoback has already announced his intention to run again for the Conservative Party in the next election and said there are still local issues to bring to Ottawa including agriculture, government policy, infrastructure, and carbon taxes. Hoback is confident the party’s new leader, Andrew Scheer will resonate with voters come election time.

“Canadians will have a good solid alternative to Justin Trudeau and I think they’re going to embrace that,” Hoback added. “We’re prepared, I’ve already got my election team put together.”
