Chill win home tournament

Nov 13, 2018 | 6:00 AM

The Prince Albert Midget AA Dairy Queen Chill capped off a successful weekend at their home Kelly Dmyterko Memorial Tournament with a thrilling 3-1 victory in Sunday’s afternoon final against league rival, the North East Leafs.

The game could have gone either way. Chill Captain Nic Prediger scored late in the first period to put his team on the board first. The NE Leafs ralled in the second to tie the game, and the score would remain unchanged until late in the third period when the Chill went on the power play and scored what would be the game winning goal. Jaxon Hope and Kaleb Charko dug hard behind the NE net before finding Aaron Campbell alone in the slot. Campbell wasted no time in burying the eventual game winner with 36 seconds left in the game. Prediger scored an empty net goal seconds later to seal the championship.

The Chill were undefeated over the weekend with a commanding 9-1 win over Manitoba’s Eastman Selects on Friday night, followed up by a 5-3 win on Saturday over Alberta’s PAC Saints. The Chill return to league play this Thursday in Martensville.
