Regina man dies on waterfalls in B.C. park

A 23-year-old Regina man on vacation with friends to the Shuswap Lake in B.C. has died after falling into some waterfalls.

He was with a group who had beached their houseboat to enjoy a hike in Albas Falls Provincial Park. Once they reached the top of the waterfalls, they decided to take a photo.

A few in the group went beyond the safety barrier on the trail. One man then went beyond a second barrier to another rock ledge.

When he turned to face the group for the photo to be taken, he slipped on wet rocks and fell into the fast moving waters. He was swept downstream and over a series of high waterfalls.

Members of the group he was with headed down the trail to the bottom of the falls to try to rescue him. He was found unresponsive at the foot of the falls where the water pools more calmly.

Although they tried CPR and artificial respiration, they were unable to revive him.

RCMP officers, members of victim services as well as the B.C. Coroners Service and search and rescue members flew into the remote area and hiked to the group's location to assist them and to recover the man's body.

His name is not being released by the RCMP at this time.
