OK Hjerdaas Golf Tournament

Aug 18, 2014 | 1:40 PM

The Victoria Hospital Foundation’s 17th annual OK Hjertaas Golf Tournament is set to tee-off this Friday, August 22 at Cooke Municipal Golf Course. Over 150 golfers are expected to participate in this annual fundraiser in honour of the late Dr. Orville Hjertaas, a pioneer in the development of Saskatchewan’s medicare system.

Returning as title sponsors are Riverpark Memorial Chapel and Conexus Credit Union along with RBC Wealth Management as the official banquet sponsor. The tournament also welcomes new premium sponsors WorkSafe and Cameco.

The tournament aims to raise over $70,000 this year to purchase a highly specialized ultrasound machine. The ultrasound machine is considered gold standard care with its ability to quickly ascertain the heart health of a patient before undergoing surgery in Prince Albert. The machine will also be instrumental in assisting surgeons in monitoring the heart during surgery as well as post-surgery to diagnose life threatening heart infections. In the past, patients would be required to travel to Saskatoon for this type of assessment.

The tournament has a double shotgun start with tee offs at 7:30 am and 1:00 pm at Cooke Municipal Golf Course. The Golf Awards Banquet takes place at Ches Leach Lounge at Art Hauser Centre at 6:30 pm.
