The Prince Albert SPCA is hoping to connect animals in need with new homes through a special event this week.

The SPCA is hosting an ‘adopt-a-thon’ to match stray animals with new homes. Ashlee Bober, the shelter’s kennel manager, said the event is happening in communities across the province with the goal of finding homes for a total of 500 stray animals. As of Friday afternoon, she said the Prince Albert shelter had matched nine dogs and six cats with new permanent owners.

“There are so many animals here that are really looking for fantastic homes,” Bober told paNOW. “We have a lot of really, really fantastic animals.”

Currently at the SPCA, 21 puppies and dogs are awaiting adoption and about 40 kittens and cats of various ages and breeds are available. With Black Cat Appreciation Day trending on social media Friday, Bober said the shelter has a number of black kittens and cats up for adoption as well.
