River Riders Start Season SUNDAY

Aug 23, 2014 | 10:57 AM

The Fall 2014 Prince Albert River Riders minor tackle football season starts this Sunday, August 24th! No previous playing experience is required, and all the necessary equipment is provided except cleats and water bottles! Bantam players are particularly wanted (age 13 &14). Pee Wee players (age 10 to 12) are also welcome. Both boys and girls can play!

Our Registration and Equipment Fitting evening is happening on Sunday, August 24th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Crescent Heights Arena on Branion Drive. Walkup registrations will be welcome, however, online pre-registration is highly recommended, as it greatly speeds up the registration, payment, and equipment fitting process. Online pre-registration and more information are available at www.pariverriders.com.

If you cannot attend on Sunday, please contact the head coach or co-ordinator listed on our website for your child's age level, and make arrangements to register prior to one of our practices. Late registrations will be accepted during the first week of practices. For the first week, we will be practicing from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm Monday through Thursday on the field between Crescent Heights Arena and Diefenbaker School. Please arrive at Crescent Heights Arena at 5:30 pm to register your child to play.

Our season runs from August 24th to October 15th. All teams are guaranteed one playoff game, with the top 4 teams playing off for the league championship, and the remaining teams completing their seasons with a “Bowl” game. Playoffs start October 19th. The league final is played on October 26th, and the winner of that game gets to play Moose Jaw's champion team in the provincial final in Saskatoon on November 2nd.

Practices after the first week will be on Tuesday and Friday evenings, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, and Saturday mornings from 10:30 am to noon.

There will be one particularly interesting Bantam game this season. On Friday October 10th, the River Riders will be the “away” team for a game at Max Clunie Field in Prime Ministers' Park, as they face the Carlton Crusaders, who have also entered a bantam age team in the Kinsmen Football League. Game time is TBA, but it will be under the “Friday Night Lights”. Go River Riders!
