National Immunization Awareness Week

Apr 12, 2014 | 10:14 AM

Let’s celebrate! National Immunization Awareness Week April 26-May2/2014

Immunization protects individuals and communities by preventing the spread of disease. When enough people are immunized the disease risk for everyone is reduced.

Immunizations work by triggering a natural response in your body to produce antibodies, which fight off disease. The antibodies train your immune system, so if you're ever exposed to the disease for real, you're already protected.

Recent measles outbreaks across the country and cases here in Saskatchewan are good reminders that we are not all protected. No matter how healthy you are, if you haven't had the vaccine, you don't have the antibodies to protect you if you are ever exposed to the disease.
