OPTIMIST CLUB OF PRINCE ALBERT 50 YEARS OF SERVICE TO PRINCE ALBERT & AREA
Since 1961, the Optimist Club of Prince Albert has provided service to the youth and the community. In 1981, our club sponsored the High Noon Optimist Club of Prince Albert, which is also a great club in our community.
Meeting the needs of young people in communities’ world wide, Optimist clubs have been “Bringing out the Best in Kids” since 1919. Optimist International is a worldwide organization with over 2,900 individual clubs and 87,000 members. Optimists conduct 65,000 service projects each year serving millions of young people. Optimists also spend $78 million on their communities annually. Since each club is autonomous, and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth of their community in any way they see fit.
Some of our Club's community projects that have been accomplished are: the Optimist Center (under the Grand Stand) at the Prince Albert Exhibition grounds, Optimist Tourist Park, Optimist Soccer Field (in Prime Ministers Park), improvements to Mair Park baseball field (on River Street West), Snoezelen Room (at Ecole Vickers) and various projects at the Victoria Union Hospital.
From 2007-2009, we helped upgrade 4 School Playgrounds: Queen Mary Community School, St. Francis School, Vincent Massey Community School and John Diefenbaker School.
