In Mother’s Memory

Out of respect for the family’s wish for anonymity the names have been changed.

Joan’s family had been pioneer retailers in Prince Albert. In addition, they had invested in many promising ventures they felt would help the community grow. Many of their investments were successful and paid off handsomely. Like many successful people they had reached that point in life where they could enjoy the fruits of their labours and would holiday in the warmer climates of the sunny south each winter.

Then one day while on holidays in the U.S. Joan became very ill. It became apparent that arrangements would have to be made to fly Joan and her husband home to Prince Albert where she was hospitalized for a number of weeks. Joan’s family was very appreciative of the care she received while hospitalized in the Victoria Hospital. They were also impressed with the compassion and attention she received from the doctors and nursing staff.

When Joan passed away some weeks later her husband and sons agreed that they wanted to do something to express their appreciation to the hospital. They contacted the Victoria Hospital Foundation and learned about the kind and type of medical equipment that was needed most at the hospital at that time. Ultimately, they choose to make a gift to the hospital foundation’s “Life Support Campaign”. Their gift was used to purchase a number of pieces of equipment that are currently used in the Emergency Department and the Critical Care Unit.
