September 18th  at 7 p.m. is an Author Reading – Saskatchewan Smoke Jumpers by Hope Pederson

Forest fires have ravaged everything in their path for hundreds of years. The loss of life and property has been devastating to all these monsters touched. The Saskatchewan Smoke Jumpers did so many courageous things to curb the destruction and heartache caused by these terrible and frightening events called ‘forest fires’. When smoke was spotted, a crew of brave warriors of the sky would climb into their airplane and fly to the scene. Their next act would defy reason; as one at a time, they exited their ride to float down into the throat of what was often a raging inferno of danger and destruction.

Born on a farm near Weldon, Saskatchewan Hope had a keen interest in books and writing. No wonder she was thrilled when she was able to start, finish and publish a magnificent story about the ‘Saskatchewan Smoke Jumpers’. She met and married Olaf Pederson who had been one of the brave men, who with a crew of other fire fighters made up one of the Saskatchewan Smoke Jumper teams. Olaf and Hope moved to British Columbia where they lived for three years, then returned to Saskatchewan to raise their family and live out their lives in a rural setting near Weldon. The Pederson family grew, as three daughters came along and in due time, four grandchildren. The Pederson family also fostered 42 children over the years.

Everyone is welcome to meet Hope and listen to readings from her new book! Books will be for sale.
