Herb Bassett Home benefits from farming fundraiser

Feb 4, 2016 | 10:57 AM

While there may still be snow on the ground, the seeds have been planted for this year’s Field of Futures campaign.

Redhead Equipment has named Herb Bassett as this year’s recipient.

“The Herb Bassett Home is in need of a lot of things and has never been out there looking for (money), it’s a very valuable thing to the community,” said Arron McLean with Redhead Equipment.

Field of Futures was launched in 2013 as a fundraiser for chosen community organizations. By planting, tending and harvesting almost 150 acres per year, the net proceeds are donated to a local group in need of assistance.

Employees with Redhead Equipment are the ones who do the work, a lot of it is done on their own time.

This year will mark the fourth year for the campaign. McLean said every year it gets tougher and tougher to choose a recipient.

“We were hoping to make an announcement before Christmas, but just couldn’t figure it out. There were just too many good choices,” he said.

Last year’s recipient was the Buckland Fire Department.  Nearly $54,000 was donated.

“We have a smaller field this year so we will do our best but it will be a hard thing to repeat,” said McLean.
