Local Group Supports Education Abroad

Local Group Supports Education Abroad with a Steak Night Fundraiser Monday, September 29, 2014 and Barbecue Wednesday, October 1.

A local group of caring individuals have banded together to support the educational needs of people in underprivileged countries by collecting outdated post-secondary textbooks for shipment to Compassionate Resource Warehouse in Victoria. Once received, Compassionate Resource Warehouse inventories and distributes supplies across the globe to countries in need.

“The positive impact of this donation is multi-faceted and profound,” says Prince Albert resident and member, Cindy Koob. “First, the books are collected and deemed to have outlived their usefulness in our community; our waste is then repurposed to enable the advancement of education to members of the global community who would otherwise have nothing. We are thankful to Compassionate Resource Warehouse for filling such an important global need. One of the benefactors of our shipment is a local and global organization, Global Neighbors, which is headed by Dave and Heather Hepner of Prince Albert. Global Neighbors do extensive humanitarian work in Thailand.”

Koob adds, “This is a grass roots community initiative that is open to participation from all sectors of our community. We’ve had sponsorship and donations from local artists, businesses and post-secondary institutions. These are all signs of just how interconnected our world has become.”
