Kiskaciwan Youth Council – Engaging Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Youth In Healthy Activities

Jul 29, 2014 | 3:07 PM

Kiskaciwan Youth Council (KYC) is comprised of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN) youth members who reside in and around the community of Chief Joseph Custer I.R# 201.

KYC is set up in an attempt to engage the PBCN Youth to get involved in healthy activities in our community. Drugs and alcohol abuse is an all too common issue with youth living in urban settings. Without adequate emotional, spiritual, physical, mental and financial support, youth can easily fall between the cracks that may lead to alternative lifestyles such as drug/alcohol addiction and gangs.

The organizational structure of the KYC will consist of a Jr. Chief, Jr. Vice-Chief and three Jr. Councilors. These positions will be filled via an annual general meeting in which only the PBCN Youth of the community can vote.

The youth will be responsible for the overall operation, planning and implementation of any activities that may arise. Adult allies will also be available to assist the youth in reaching their goals via proposal writing, fundraising, etc…

All youth are encouraged to share their ideas, concerns, criticisms with the group. Only they will know what functions and activities are needed in our community.
ANY and ALL youth are WELCOME to join, even if it’s your first meeting or first time volunteering for an activity, you are more than welcome!

This is the first meeting for the youth to share their ideas and concerns within our community. The target age group is 13 – 18 yrs. old. However, if you child wants to be involved in the group and is under 13 yrs. old, they will have to accompanied by an adult.

Meeting will be Tuesday August 5, 2014 at 5: 30 pm with Elder John Morin Memorial Boardroom at PBCN Health Services Inc. in the Roy A. Morin Memorial Building
2200 7th Avenue West – *Please use side entrance*

Elder will be in attendance.
