B.E.D.Rock Festival Society Sets Up GoFundMe Site

Jan 8, 2016 | 11:13 AM

The B.E.D.Rock Festival – still in its infancy – provides a last weekend of the year Rock and Blues Festival at the beautiful Struther’s Lake Regional Park – for FREE. But the non profit society running the festival is looking to the public to provide funding to pay musicians and provide sound for this family friendly, musician encouraging event.

The B.E.D.Rock Festival began in 2014 as a project to encourage the genre of Rock Music in Saskatchewan by bringing a great rock festival to a Regional Park and provide the music for FREE aside from the $5 per vehicle Park fee.

This festival is unique in that it encourages beginner and youth musicians to participate alongside professional musicians.

It is the goal of B.E.D.rock Festival to not only provide a great day of Rock Music – but to remind people how wonderful live music is, to showcase local Rock and Blues musicians and to bring up the young and beginner musicians – providing them with stage experience and and opportunity to talk with other musicians as various levels.

Located at Struther’s Lake Regional Park, the festival brings together rock and blues musicians of all levels for a FREE concert.

However, it is extremely challenging to create the funds for this festival.

Because our society is in its infancy, we are not eligible for substantial grants.

In the past we have gratefully accepted small donations from the Northern Lights Casino and we are grateful, but because the money received was low – the musicians that did attend, did so for very small honorariums.

This is not fair to the musicians.

We still had a great couple of festivals in 2014 and 2015.

Nevertheless, it is important to be able to pay musicians, provide great sound technicians, etcetera. It is important to teach musicians to be paid and to role model that through our festival. Additionally, many great musicians just cannot afford a non paying day in their busy season and therefore cannot perform at B.E.D.rock Festival for basically gas money.

Imagine what we could do if we had a budget!

We could have MORE musicians – MORE variety and we could start to begin musician workshops, perhaps – if we meet our goal, have a two day event. But that takes money.  Those who know this festival know that things just get rolling in the one day – and that day is over way too soon.

Again – this festival is FREE. If you have attended this event and enjoyed it and would like to see even greater things in the future or if you just love a day at the lake that also includes amazing Rock and Blues music of all levels performed live – then kindly consider providing a generous donation.
