P.A. Minor Football makes call for more coaches

Jul 19, 2018 | 2:00 PM

The Prince Albert Minor Football Association is putting the call out to anyone who may have some experience in the game to come out and coach.

The organization is facing a shortage of capable people and in order to properly prepare for the upcoming season they’re hoping former minor players and athletes can come forward soon. The Atom program – for ages nine and 10 – is in jeopardy of being cancelled unless a co-ordinator can be found and more coaches are needed at all levels, according to the association.

“I think there’s a lot of people out there who are probably plenty knowledgeable and capable enough to coach,” board member and coach Taras Kachkowski told paNOW. “Even if someone has only played four years of high school football, that’s still more organized football knowledge than your eight to 10-year-old.”

Kachkowski said the football coaching community is still quite small in P.A. and that was an obstacle to growing or even maintaining the programs they offer. He understood that in many cases a dad or mum would perhaps stop coaching once their son or daughter moved on from the game but he was hopeful enough former Huskies, Valkyries, Hilltops, Tams, Thunder, Crusaders and Marauders would be willing to help out.
