RCMP arrest two in Debden break and enter

Big River RCMP have arrested two suspects in connection with a Thursday night rural break-in that led to gunfire and a police chase after the property owner confronted them.

The suspects remain in custody though charges have yet to be laid.

RCMP said the property owner encountered at least two suspects stealing two long-barreled rifles from his property about three-kilometres south of Debden around midnight Thursday. The homeowner attempted to pursue the fleeing suspects in his own vehicle but he abandoned the chase after a number of shots were fired in his direction.

Officers from the Big River detachment located the suspect vehicle and pursued, but they were unable to stop the vehicle and eventually lost contact with it.

RCMP said the truck involved has been recovered as well a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing with the help from the Prince Albert General Investigations Unit and Prince Albert Forensic Identification Services.

RCMP said further updates will be given if and when charges are laid.
