Bruins shutout Hawks to force Game 7 in SJHL finals

Apr 22, 2018 | 10:05 PM

It’s all come down to this.

Whoever wins the all-important Tuesday night matchup between the Nipawin Hawks and the Estevan Bruins will take home the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League title–the 2018 Canalta Cup.

Facing elimination on Sunday night, the Bruins forced the rubber match with a 4-0 win in Game 6 in Estevan.

Bo Didur stopped all 36 shots he faced for the shutout to force the all-important game seven.

Bruins’ forward Kaelan Holt entered the game as the SJHL’s second leader scorer, but it looked like he would have to leave the first period after taking a knee-on-knee collision from Hawks’ forward Tyler Adams. But Holt returned to the start of the second and fed Johnny Witzke for the opening goal of the game—the first of his two assists of the game. Holt is now tied with Hawks’ forward Brandan Arnold with 21 postseason points.

Michael McChesney, Hayden Guilderson and Jake Fletcher also scored goals for the Bruins.

Should the Bruins go on and win Game 7, it will be the franchise’s third SJHL title in their history. A Hawks’ victory would be their second SJHL championship.
